Student Support Department Teacher – Case Manager

Description

This full time position deals directly with students, colleagues and parents about student support matters. The objective of the role is to provide students with support and strategies that allow them to access the curriculum and operate effectively at school. It requires liaising with external professionals and includes completing formal applications in consultation with staff and parents to government departments for funding allocations which are reviewed on a regular basis.

In addition to case managing student needs, small group student support lessons in general literacy, writing, social skills or executive functioning will be included in the responsibilities of this position.

The applicant should be able to effectively multi-task and self-manage their time, whilst also demonstrating the ability to follow directives and work collaboratively as part of a functional team. They should possess clear oral and written communication skills and be willing to adapt to new and changing technologies utilised within the primary school. Primary Teacher Aide Supply  

Description

This casual supply position provide teacher aide support at various levels within the primary school.  The role is to assist staff by undertaking tasks that support the classroom teacher or students in the delivery of learning. Secondary School

Science Technician (Relief) 

Description

This is a support position located in the secondary Science department. The Science Technician will assist the Head of Science and teachers to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the Science laboratories. The Science Technician鈥檚 prime function is to support the achievement of improved student learning outcomes in Science by assisting the teaching staff and college students in their use of the Science laboratories.

Academic Qualifications: Minimum of a relevant Certificate IV in Laboratory Techniques or equivalent. A bus driver鈥檚 licence would be an advantage.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Prepare, distribute and set up samples/demonstrations, class sets of equipment and associated scientific materials for practical teaching laboratory us
  • Prepare chemical solutions of known concentration from bulk supplies including concentrated acids, stains and media and manufacture simple glassware/general equipment for preparation-laboratory and teaching-laboratory use.
  • Complete necessary curriculum related risk assessment documentation for teachers to review.
  • Work independently in a science laboratory, recognising, anticipating and safely managing chemical hazards.
  • Maintain scientific teaching resources, classrooms, storerooms, preparation rooms and laboratories in a clean, safe, orderly and secure manner.
  • Maintain a safe chemical/laboratory waste storage/handling/preparation/disposal system including labelling, secure storage, calibration and control of equipment and apparatus.
  • Collect off campus scientific materials, science resources and field samples and collect and care for flora and fauna within the science department, in accordance with current handling and prevention of cruelty regulations.
  • Maintain a system for recording allocation and usage of materials and equipment, establishing a priority system where necessary.
  • Organise and prioritise daily variation of tasks to flexibly support student learning outcomes.
  • Operate laboratory equipment/apparatus and perform routine operator maintenance/instrument calibrations as required, in compliance with the manufacturer specifications.
  • Assist science teaching staff with demonstrations, instruction of students on use/care of equipment during science experiments and field trips and the application of safety measures.
  • Demonstrate innovative thinking by solving problems and assisting to identify learning opportunities, in conjunction with teachers and the Head of Science.
  • Provide and promote quality advice to Science teaching staff on their needs for practical work, focusing on the technical components of the curriculum, including STEM initiatives.
  • Assist in promoting and implementing various STEM initiatives, to increase student engagement and STEM pathways.
  • Develop maintenance procedures, and carry out maintenance of science equipment, materials, and buildings. Report loss and damage to equipment and arrange repairs and replacements.
  • Complete Workplace Health and Safety audits of the college laboratories as required.
  • Assist with field trip preparations that may include arranging bookings and preparing appropriate materials.
  • Assist with bus driving for field trips and group work.
  • Assist with record keeping, stocktaking of equipment/materials within the Science department.
  • Assist with databases and asset register maintenance – annual stock take, hazardous substances register, dangerous goods register, dissection register, or any other relevant registers as required by legislation.
  • Assist with preparing and managing the Science budget and maintaining petty cash.
  • Collect and/or receive deliveries of stock, unpack, check invoices, store appropriately. 
  • Maintain accurate records of inventory, purchases/incoming orders, arrange collection and/or receipting, unpacking, checking invoices and storage of stock, a chemical stock register and monitor chemicals and ensure provision of current Safety Data Sheets.
  • Establish, maintain, review and update laboratory protocols and methods.
  • Liaise and network with organisations, industries and other schools, Science teaching staff and other laboratory staff under the direction of the Head of Science.
  • Acquire relevant catalogues and price lists, obtain quotes and prepare orders for equipment, chemicals and services.
  • Assist with the data entry of student results and the provision of student data to the Head of Science.
  • Assist with management of the filing system in the Science department and the formatting of exams and assessments items for Science teachers.

Secondary Relief Teacher Aide

Description

This position is responsible for collaboratively assisting with all aspects of the planning, preparation and delivery of effective learning and teaching programs across the key learning areas for every student in the allocated classes, as directed. In addition, the teacher aide has a duty of care to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all students within their care.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assist the class teacher in carrying out academic programs.
  • Monitor the students鈥 progress when requested.
  • Support and assist the students with their social and emotional progress.
  • Preparation of resources for learning activities e.g. administration tasks for teacher and self, library-based work, photocopying, development of resources etc.
  • Classroom-based support and direction of students involving standing or seated presentation of information to students, monitoring verbal and non-verbal responses of students, providing answers to questions and supervision of group and individual learning activities.
  • Excursion-based support of students; involving supervision of small or large groups of students outside the school premises, monitoring student completion of excursion-related learning activities, constant surveillance of surroundings to ensure student safety etc.

The IT Technical Support Officer (TSO) is responsible for assisting in the efficient planning, installation, administration, maintenance, and performance of the College computer network and specifically the effective running of the IT Help Desk.

Help Desk Support

The TSO is located strategically to support walk-in, phone and email queries from teaching staff. Ancillary staff may also phone and/or email requests for assistance to the TSO directly. These requests are to be attended to in a timely and professional manner. Teaching and Ancillary staff requests may require the TSO to visit them in their classroom or office to fulfil the request. The Help Desk position involves giving assistance in rectifying PC / Mac / iPad related issues such as getting a computer to turn on, boot, login or shutdown correctly.  Other issues could require diagnosis of hardware failure, software installation or configuration errors, printer-related problems, email communication, Internet connectivity, and advice on how to get the best from their PC / Mac / iPad. Frequently, the TSO will be required to work in classrooms to rectify problems, involving interaction with staff and students. Priorities will need to be evaluated. The TSO will require a reasonably high level of administrative ability when deciding what jobs are to be carried out and in what time frame. For clarification of daily job priorities, the TSO will refer to the Director of IT for direction.

Attending to other duties as required from time to time.
Ability to work additional hours as required.
